What is a CFA Title?
You will see letters before and after a show cats name. These are the cats CFA titles and can sometimes be confusing.
CH = Champion
GH = Grand Champion
GP = Grand Premier
NW = National Winner
RW = Regional Winner
BW = Breed Winner
DM after a name means Distinguished Merit.
A Champion is an adult pedigreed cat that has been seen by 6 judges and not disqualified (this means they fit the standard enough to continue on showing toward their Grand).
A Grand Champion is an adult pedigreed cat that has beat 200 other cats.
A Grand Premier is an adult neutered or spayed pedigreed cat that has beat 200 other cats.
A Distinguished Merit title means:
5 or more of a that females children have become Grand Champions.
15 or more of that males children have become Grand Champions.
A National Winner title is for a cat that was one of 20 best or any breed in the entire country for a specific year.
A Regional Winner title is for a cat that was one of 20 best or any breed in the region they live for a specific year.
A Breed Winner is the best Champion of the breed for a specific year.
NW & RW can be achieved in one of 3 classes: Kitten class, Champion class and Premier class. Kittens are ages 4 to 8 months, Champions are 8 months or older, Premiers are 8 months or older and have been neutered or spayed.
Examples:
GC, NW Velva’s Blue Viking (a Grand Champion who was 1 of the top 20 cats in the USA) If you are a NW adult Champion then there is an assumed BW and RW that is not always listed since a NW is of higher value than a BW or RW. BW is for the highest scoring RB Champion of the year.
GC, NW Roxanastasia’s Bela Karolyi, DM (a Grand Champion who was 1 of the top 20 cats in the USA and received a Distinguished Merit award for siring 15 or more Grand Champions in his life)
NW Velva’s Alyona (a National Winning kitten who was 1 of the top 20 kittens in the USA) In this case there is no GC or GP because this was a kitten when it won and there are no Grand titles for kittens.
The first National Win for a Russian was for GC, NW Velva’s Blue Viking.
The first Distinguished Merit issued was to CH Sahara's Pascha Dobrovnya
Last years National Winner was GC, BW, NW Wynterwynd Clair De Lune (seen below)
